Based on The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant by Douglass Wallop.
Joe Boyd is a loyal baseball fan who is frustrated that his favorite team, the Washington Senators, will never win the pennant. In a moment of weakness, he states that he would sell his soul to the devil to make it happen. Unforturnately, the devil heard him.
Joe Boyd is transformed into Joe Hardy, a young, dashing, hard-hitting ballplayer who leads the Senators to victory in almost every match. However, Joe misses his wife Meg, and ultimately returns happily to his middle-aged life.
