White Christmas: May Your Days Be Merry and Bright and May All Your Christmases Be White
White Christmas Sheet Music (Vocal Selections) |
Based on the 1954 classic hit film.
After leaving the Army after W.W.II, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis team up to become a top song-and-dance act. Davis plays matchmaker and introduces Wallace to a pair of beautiful sisters (Betty and Judy) who also have a song-and-dance act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow, only to find their former commander, General Waverly, is the lodge owner, on the verge of bankruptcy. A series of romantic mix-ups ensue as the performers try to help the General.
Audition Preparation Suggestions for White Christmas
If only one song is required for the audition, it is strongly suggested that you choose an upbeat song.
Dance ability is needed. Tap dance ability is a definite asset. Most productions include a tap dancing ensemble. |
- Bob Wallace (Baritone, late to mid 20’s-30’s)
- A major singing star. Bob is the guiding force being the song and dance team of Wallace and Davis. A superb singer with a crooning style who moves very well.
- Betty Haynes (Soprano with Chest Mix, moves well, 30s)
- The sensible, responsible half of the Haynes sisters. A singer of quiet beauty and charm.
- Judy Haynes (Chest Mix, jazz & tap dance, 20s - 30s)
- The younger, more ambitious, slightly scheming Haynes sister.
- Phil Davis (Baritone/Tenor, 25 - 30’s)
- The fun loving, go-getting song and dance partner of the team of Wallace and Davis. An irrepressible clown, operator and incorrigible ladies man. Strong Jazz and tap needed.
- General Henry Waverly (Non-Singing, 55-60’s)
- A retired U.S. Army General, adjusting to civilian life in post World War II America. Once a powerful leader, he now struggles to run a struggling inn in Vermont. He remains a man of great pride and dignity. A tough exterior with a warm heart.
- Martha Watson (Belt, comic role, late 30’s-50’s)
- Once a Broadway star, now the General’s Housekeeper. Big-hearted but rather unsentimental, she runs the General’s life in spite of his protestations. Dry wit and wisecracking sense of humor. A winning, appealing character.
- Mike (Comic role, mid 20’s to late 30’s)
- Bob and Phil’s stage manager. Has a tendency to be over dramatic and completely hysterical.
- Ezekiel Foster (Baritone, comic timing, mid 40’s-60’s)
- The ultimate New Englander, who helps out in a jam. Takes life at a very slow pace. May be doubled with other roles.
- Ralph Sheldrake (Baritone, 30’s)
- A major television executive, fast-talking, New York Professional - former army buddy of the boys'
- Susan Waverly- (Mezzo, moves well, 9-12 year old to play 9)
- Susan is a loveable, outgoing child. She is very smart, wise beyond her years. She must have an excellent strong voice and move well.
Tessie (age open)
- Bob and Phil’s extremely competent assistant.
- Small chorus of children
