- Anne Catherick (Soprano, Scottish accent, 20s)
- A scarred, abused woman with a terrible secret. She longs to reveal the treachery of Sir Percival Glyde, who abused her and threw her in an Asylum. A madwoman. A somewhat mysterious figure. The Secret is one of the central plot devices.

- Rigidly respectable mother of Anne Catherick
- Frederick Fairlie
- Laura's uncle, and the current manager of Limmeridge House. A selfish, petty, silly old man who wants nothing more to live a peaceful life at Limmeridge. He knows much more about Anne Catherick than we think he does.
- Laura Fairlie/Lady Glyde (legit soprano, 18 - 25)
- The heiress of Limmeridge House. An innocent, beautiful young woman with no control over her future. In love with Hartright. Married to Sir Perceval Glyde for money
- Count Isidor Ottavio Baldassare Fosco (tenor, Italian accent, late 40s - 50s)
- Sir Percival's eccentric partner in crime. Somewhat attracted to Marian. May or may not be played as likeable. The "Napoleon of Crime."

- Fosco's wife; Laura Lairlie's aunt
- Sir Percival Glyde (tenor, 40s)
- Friend of Laura's father, marrying her for money. The ultimate villain. We learn about his evil intentions later.

- Marian Halcombe (Mezzo, mid 20s)
- Laura's half sister and the show's protagonist. Bright, headstrong, independent and resourceful. Secretly in love with Hartright, but unfortunately doesn't stand a chance next to her half-sister's beauty. Ruthie Henshall type.
- Walter Hartright (Tenor, late 20s)
- The new drawing teacher at Limmeridge House. Is in love with Laura, his pupil. A gentleman. Very handsome, caring and sincere.
